How it works

Four steps, ten chapters

Kids work through each chapter on their own, then talk it over with you.

  1. 1

    Step 1: Jar

    Give every dollar a job.

  2. 2

    Step 2: Track

Follow money on cards and screens, and spot tricks.

  3. 3

    Step 3: Plan

Wants vs needs, goals, and a first budget.

  4. 4

    Step 4: Grow

How money grows, and a one-page family plan.

Try one now

Safe, ask an adult, or a trick?

Three message cards from Chapter 4. Pick a pile for each one.

  1. Card 1

    Message

“You won a free pet robot! Tap the link in the next 5 minutes or it goes to someone else.”
  2. Card 2

Text from your coach, who you know

“Practice moves to 4 o'clock on Saturday. See you there!”
  3. Card 3

Message from a player in your game club

“Want to join my team? Tap this link to sign up.”

There are 8 cards like this in Chapter 4.

Parent tip

Try the 48-hour pause

Wait two days before buying any want. Write it in a pause log. Many wants fade.

The Pause Log page from Jar by Jar: a table for writing down wants, the date paused, and how much you still want each one 48 hours later
