1. Who is responsible for your data
Talewhim is an online shop for ebooks at talewhim.com. It is run by Peter Tah trading as Talewhim, Ballymaloe Road, Cork, P25 H9N4, Ireland. In these pages “we”, “us” and “our” mean Talewhim, and “you” means the person using the site or buying from it.
We are the “controller” of the personal data described here, which means we decide how and why it is used. You can reach us about anything in this policy at info@talewhim.com.
2. What we collect and why
- When you buy. Your email address, name and billing details (including your country, which affects tax), and what you bought and when. Payment is taken by Stripe, so we never see or store your full card number. We use this to complete your order, deliver your downloads, and keep the records the law requires.
- Your download links. We email you a link to your order. If you use “Resend my download links”, we use the email address you type to look up your orders and send that email. We do not say whether an address has bought anything.
- When you contact us. Your name, email address and message, and our replies. The contact form opens your own email app rather than sending your message through our website.
- Technical data. Our hosting provider processes technical data such as your IP address, browser and the pages you request, to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
3. Our legal reasons for using it
- To carry out our contract with you when you order (delivering the ebook, sending links, helping with problems).
- To meet legal duties, such as keeping tax and accounting records.
- For our legitimate interests in running a secure shop, preventing fraud and abuse, and answering your questions.
4. Who we share it with
We use the following service providers. They only receive what they need to do their job.

Where Stripe is the seller of record (shown at checkout as “Sold through Link”), it also decides how it uses your payment data for that sale, under its own privacy notice. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights.
5. Transfers outside your country
Some of these providers are based in, or process data in, countries outside the European Economic Area and the UK, such as the United States. Where that happens we rely on safeguards recognised by law, for example approved standard contractual clauses or the provider's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
6. Cookies and similar storage
- Your cart. Your browser's local storage remembers what is in your cart on your own device. It is needed for the shop to work and is not sent to advertisers.
- Admin login. A cookie keeps the shop owner signed in to the admin area. Shoppers never receive it.
- Payment page. Stripe's payment page sets its own cookies; see Stripe's notice for details.
At the moment we do not use advertising or analytics cookies. If that changes, we will update this page first.
7. How long we keep it
- Order records: for as long as tax and accounting law requires. In Ireland that is generally six years.
- Emails you send us: for as long as we need them to help you and keep a record of what was agreed.
- Technical logs: for a short period, as set by our hosting provider.
8. Your rights
You have the right to ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- delete your data (where the law allows us to);
- restrict how we use it, or object to a use based on our legitimate interests;
- give you your data in a portable format.
To use any of these rights, email info@talewhim.com. We may need to check who you are first. If you are not happy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Data Protection Commission (Ireland), or, if you live in the UK, to the Information Commissioner's Office. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
9. Children
Our shop is meant for adults and is not aimed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their personal data.
10. Security
Our site uses encrypted connections. Ebook files are kept in private storage and are only released through signed links to people whose payment has been confirmed. Payment details go straight to Stripe. No system is completely secure, so if you think your data has been put at risk please tell us straight away.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. The rules for buying from us are in our Terms of service.
