Is this you?

Sound familiar?

  • You answer “how do you feel?” with an explanation.

  • You were “being reasonable” and they still left the room upset.

  • Feelings ambush you at 2 a.m.

  • You're tired for no clear reason.

  • You win arguments and end up alone.

The idea

A different way to look at it

You're not broken. You're out of practice.

Your analytical mind is the asset, not the problem.

Feelings are data you've been ignoring.

The method

The N.A.M.E. method

Four steps, in this order.

  1. Notice

    Start with the body.

  2. Attach a word

    Use the feelings ladder.

  3. Make room

    60 seconds, no fixing.

  4. Engage

Decide what to do: last, not first.

From the book

For years, I believed staying calm under pressure meant staying disconnected from how I felt. ...

During the incident, I wasn't calm. I was functioning. That distinction matters. Performance under pressure is valuable. Pretending pressure doesn't affect you is something else entirely.

About the author

Peter Tah is a Principal Engineer in Technical Support based in Cork, Ireland. For nearly two decades, he has worked at the intersection of technology and people, helping customers navigate critical outages, complex escalations, and high-pressure technical challenges. Throughout his career, he built a reputation for staying calm, thinking clearly, and solving difficult problems. What he eventually learned, however, was that many of life's most important challenges cannot be solved through analysis alone. This book grew out of that realization.
